Pals Paper Arts (PPA14)

Pals Paper Arts challenge #14 is close to my heart. 

This week we'll be "In the Pink" in honor of breast cancer awareness month.  For me, this challenge is dedicated to my Mom who is battling metastatic breast cancer.

This card set was created using the Ribbon of Hope and Hope Happens stamp sets.  

The silver skinny tin houses all 4 cards and coordinating envelopes perfectly.  I used the whisper white note cards and envelopes for my card set.  They are a bit smaller than the average card - sized at 5" x 3 1/2" folded.

Pink Treats

Using Stampin' Up!'s Two Tags Bigz Die and the Petals-a-Plenty embossing folder, I made these easy treat holders.

Each Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose tag holds a piece of gum.  A simple and sweet treat to pass out in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

My posts may be shorter than normal this week, but my message powerful.

I've had a card idea rolling around in my head for about a week now.  This sketch provided the perfect layout for execution.

Using the Petals-a-Plenty embossing folder, I created my two panels on the front of this card.  Dazzling Diamonds glitter was applied to each flowers center - but it's hard to see in the photo (click to enlarge).

The Pretty in Pink ribbon is now retired, but it was the perfect finishing touch for this card, so I just HAD to use it.

Work in Progress

In preparing for this weeks Pals Paper Arts Challenge, I came up with two projects. 

The one I used for my design team submission was posted yesterday.  See my scrapbook page by clicking here.  

Pictured below is a card "in progress" using the colors from the PPA6 challenge:  Brocade Blue, Crushed Curry, & Ruby Red.

When I was assembling this card, I discovered something kind of fun.  The image you see above is a photo I took before completion. 

I found that I really liked the graphic look of these colored scalloped squares paired with it's powerful sentiment.  So, I wanted to share it with you. 

Below, you'll see the completed card - which I am in love with.  I can't stop staring at it on my stamping desk. 

 

These colors may seem a bit intimidating to work with, but here's a tip - lay your ink pads next to each other, it may inspire you to create (that's what I do). 

I chose to work with a simple image, the butterfly, which for me made the color combination workable and downright beautiful.

WOW Factors

These colors were SO fun to work with.

Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Ballet Blue & Whisper White was the color pallate I worked with.

I participated in two challenges for this card.  Splitcoaststampers sketch (SC237) and Kristen Werner's color challenge (#56).

Today I'm going to talk about two WOW factors.  1)  Using Stampin' Write Markers and 2)  Using sketches.

Using Stampin' Write markers I inked up the large image from Razzle Dazzle, to allow for a custom colored image. 

Here's how you can use your Stampin' Write Markers:

• Use a marker to apply ink only to the desired parts of the image
• Add other colors if desired
• Breathe on the inked image to remoisten the ink with your breath before stamping onto paper

Easy right?  But packs such a WOW factor.  Try it on your next card and I guarantee you'll love the results. 

Another easy way to pack that WOW into your card is to use a sketch.

Sometimes it's hard to come up with your own creative  ideas.  Not only does it help with the layout, but it also helps me in other ways too.

The number 4 spot in this sketch for example is the first thing I looked at.  I always think "what stamp image will fit in the focal point?"  Razzle Dazzle came to mind in this case - big & bold. 

Creative Tip:  You don't always have to follow the shapes of sketches.  In my card - I used a circle focal point vs. a rectangular one.  Be creative and your card will start to flow in no time.

Played around with Mojo Monday's sketch #94 last night.

My Mom is going through too much lately and I wanted to make her a bright and happy card.

This card was created using a few new Stampin' Up! goodies, from the 2009 - 2010 Idea Book & Catalog. 

I started out with the Kaleidoscope designer series paper and used my DSP chart to help me figure out the coordinating colors.

Two different stamp sets were used - Hope Happens (which carried over from the last catalog) and Ribbon of Hope. 

This ribbon stamp is great because you can make it whatever color you want to support the cause that is important to you.  More importantly, it's only $7.95!!
