Happy Admin. Day!

Today, there are more than 4.1 million secretaries and administrative assistants working in the United States, according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics, and 8.9 million people working in various administrative support roles.

I am one of those 4.1 million people.  I support a Sales & Marketing team, most of who work remotely - located across the United States. 

At my workplace - there are a few other women in an admin. role that I wanted to recognize.  I made each one of them a little gift and will place it on their desk before they arrive tomorrow morning. 

Growing up, I always enjoyed writing lists, organizing, & planning (still do!).  In high school and college, somehow I was always chosen to be the "secretary" of the group. 

I guess it was only natural that I transitioned into a career as an Administrative Assistant.  Although, my heart lies with Stampin' Up! and hopefully one day, I can be a full-time Demonstrator.

26 years and counting!

Yesterday afternoon, I made this clean and simple (kwik & kool) card for my Dad.

He is celebrating 26 years of sobriety!  I like to take time every year to recognize this accomplishment.  Here's the card that I made for his 25th year.

So, congratulations Dad on another year of sobriety.  We love you!

Here's where I get a little mushy ... it's amazing how much things can change over time.  My Dad has been called up for active duty and will be headed to Iraq in January 2010.  While this is not new "news", I reflected on his pending departure today.

We see my Dad about once a week, and coming up very soon we'll be without him.  His duty should only last 9 months, but one never knows when it comes to the military.

I'm cutting this post short today.  I wanted to share my card and my celebration of my Dad.  However, I have a lot on my plate personally and emotionally right now ... so I hope you've enjoyed seeing my creation today.

Hey now, you're a rock star ...

   

What do you do when your little one gets an owie?

Make him a card to let him know he's a rock star.  That's what!  Yesterday, my rock star tripped, fell on the cement, skinned both knees, and cried for what seemed like hours.  Even ice cream couldn't stop the tears.  

But after he opened this card from Mommy, he was all smiles!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this Storybook Specialty designer paper when I saw it in the Idea Book & Catalog.

I love the bright, bold prints that show up on one side of the paper.  The fun is waiting on the flip side ... side two provides you a coloring book effect.  Cute prints are there begging to be colored in.

I have so many ideas rolling around in my head for this paper.  All I need now is the time to sit down and create.  It certainly gets busy working outside of the home, being a Mommy, and squeezing in stamp time.  But I'll get there - I promise!

Lunchbox Love

With my little guy heading off to Kindergarten this Fall, all I can think about is sending him off to big boy school with lots of love.

I thought it would be fitting to create a few little love notes to stash in his lunchbox.  He enjoys receiving cards (and making cards) almost as much as I do.  So, imagine his surprise when he gets a special note from from Mommy & Daddy.

Each note card is made with the Friends Rock stamp set and the Rockin' Wheel. 

Playing along with the CAS challenge I made my cards clean & simple.  Not too many layers and easy to recreate.

For the challenge, we used these colors:  Only Orange, Tempting Turquoise, and Yo Yo Yellow.  All three of which belong to the Bold Brights Stampin' Up! family.  I find that these colors are versatile enough to work for a boy or a girl. 

I'm so excited to write my first note and tuck it along with his PB&J.

Friends Rock

I love everything modern ...

Stampin' Up! filled my need in this department with the Friends Rock set.  Six ultra cool images are in this set just waiting to be inked up!

These three cards were created as thank you's for birthday gifts.  I am in love with how these turned out - I only wish I could have photographed them better.  They fall into my Kwik & Kool category, which means they were quick and easy to make.  All three cards took less than 20 minutes to create. 

After I saw these notepads in the 2009 - 2010 Idea Book & Catalog I knew Friends Rock must be mine!  Isn't this a fun idea for making personalized gifts?

I bought myself some notepads and plan to create my own set (along with a few for gifts).  I am a big fan of lists and having pretty lists is just icing on the cake.

Rockin' Wheel

 My 5 year old son rocks! 

I wanted to make him a card to tell him exactly that.  What better stamp sets to use than Friends Rock and the Rockin' Wheel?

Using Mojo Monday's Sketch #95, I started playing with my new goodies.  It all started with my favorite card base - Kraft cardstock.  Ahhh ... the love I have for Kraft (we'll go into that a different day).


Rarely do I play with masculine color combos, but I tried my hand at it using Dusty Durango, Soft Suede and Crushed Curry.  I have to say I'm quite pleased with the results.  FUN FACT:  Crushed Curry is my favorite new In Color.

Check out that fun designer paper peeking out from beneath the main image.  That's the new Storybook Specialty paper.  It was the first thing in the 2009 - 2010 Idea Book & Catalog that I HAD TO HAVE. 

One side of the Storybook paper is covered in bold colors and fun prints, while the other side is like a coloring book.  Check it out!  I am so over the moon with this collection!  Coordinating colors are Taken with Teal, Summer Sun, More Mustard, Ruby Red and Old Olive.
