Blog Candy Extravaganza! - Post #2

Before I reveal the blog candy for today ... I wanted to share a card I created for two Splitcoaststampers challenges (Sketch, SC209 and Ways to Use It, WT199).

Meet Mr. T

I pity the fool that doesn't fall in love with Mr. T...


                                             OR should I say Mr. Twigster?


OK, I did it... I pre-ordered from the upcoming Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. 

I just couldn't resist "Mr. Twigster" ( a set of four cute stamps for only $13.95 - see below). 

I started my Kreation with Basic Black cardstock.  To the top I added a piece of Riding Hood Red cardstock beneath a bit of Washington Apple designer series paper (DSP). 

The main image... Mr. Twigster himself ... is stamped onto Very Vanilla (although it looks like Whisper White in this photo). 

As soon as I stamped this little guy, I was in love.  He looks so much cuter in person!  I used the little string of lights stamp to create a swag above his top hat.  They are "secured" with silver Stampin' Up! brads for a bit of bling. 

If you look closely, you'll see that his scarf is paper pieced from the Bella Rose DSP.  I wanted him to be fancy for his debut. 

Now on to my FAVORITE part... look at that wide Riding Hood Red and Very Vanilla grosgrain ribbon!  This was THE main thing I wanted from the Holiday Mini.  I simply adhered a piece of it along the bottom using some Sticky Strip to showcase it's beauty.   OOO AAAHHH, this ribbon is so yummy!

The "be of good cheer" sentiment is a rub on from the Holiday Happenings bundle (Hostess Level III).  To finish things off, I used a stick pin from the Pretties Kit and added a non Stampin' Up! plastic lightbulb to the top. 




I adore Mr. Twigster and can't wait to play with him again soon.

Card #1 or Card #2?

For me, seeing the stamp set "Snow Swirled" in the new catalog was love at first sight.  The large snowflake caught my eye immediately.  Thoughts of glittery, shiny, rhinestone adorned snowflakes filled my head.


Take my advice - get this set!  This is THE Christmas set to have this season.  It can be found on page 32 of the Fall/Winter '08 Idea Book & Catalog (item #11690; set of 6 die cut stamps for $24.95).

I am so happy to share two Kreations with you using the "Snow Swirled" set.  Although these two cards are very similar in layout, they are distinctly different in their color palate. 

The first card - somewhat traditional Christmas colors - uses the stunning snowflake I referenced above.  I started by inking the image in Riding Hood Red and decided to stamp off one time to get a lighter shade of red. 

I stamped the sentiment Seasons Greetings in Close to Cocoa ink using the stamp-a-ma-jig which allowed me perfect placement. 




I inked the snowflake again in Versmark, randomly stamping to create the background image for a subtle effect.  You'll notice the gorgeous new Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon securely holding the centerpiece in place.  I simply used my horizontal slit punch (just got this and LOVE it) allowing me to thread a piece of ribbon through each side. 

A bit of Washington Apple designer series paper sits beneath the focal point to add a punch of color!  TIP:  Check out this quick reference sheet listing coordinating colors for every collection of Designer Series Paper.

The second card - less traditional Christmas colors - uses the tree image.  I started this card by inking the tree in Kiwi Kiss and stamping it onto Very Vanilla cardstock. 

I also stamped the small snowflake randomly on top of the tree in Pink Pirouette (may be hard to see in the photo). 

I used the same basic layout for this card, but added more detail on card #2.  The Pink Pirouette cardstock under the Holiday Happenings DSP, got punch treatment with the new Curly Label punch (found on pg 189; sold in a bundle for $33.95).  I carefully aligned the punch to give the top edge some flair. 

The final touch are the pink beads from the pink duo set (pg 190).  I used crystal effects to adhere each itty bitty bead to a snowflake on the tree image. 

Card #1 is more "my style" and features colors towards which I would typically gravitate.  But Card #2 offers a softer look and is equally as beautiful.

Big & Simple Cupcake

Keep in mind - all new stamp sets are die cut in the Fall/Winter 2008 IB&C.

This means the stamp sets come virtually ready to use.  Simply punch the rubber out, remove the backing and mount to the wooden block. 

Today’s Kreation was made using one of my new favorite stamps.  The “Simple Birthday Thanks” stamp (item 111546 – set of 1, page 65, $17.95).

This is one BIG cupcake!  The card base measures 5 ¼” x 4 ¼” to give you an idea of just how big it is. 

This stamp is meant to be used as a simple thank you note … notice the center of the image (photo below) with the journaling spot.

Instead of making a "thank you for the gift" card, I wanted to just showcase the cupcake.  So, I used a Stampin’ Write marker in Basic Black to ink up the image, leaving out the center portion.

I then stamped it three times.  Once on the gorgeous Washington Apple designer series paper, once on So Saffron cardstock and finally stamped the cherry on Riding Hood Red cardstock.

After stamping, I carefully trimmed around each part of the cupcake.  I reassembled the treat atop a bit of Tangerine Tango textured cardstock, then added some bling to each dot on the frosting.  The cherry on top is covered in crystal effects to give it a “juicy” look.

The final touch is a sentiment from the hostess level I set, “Best Yet”.  It is punched out using my 1 1/4" circle punch and then mounted on a textured Tangerine Tango 1 3/8” circle.

So, Yummy!
