On Being 6

My son, Devlin is 6 today.

Yesterday, we celebrated at Chuck-e-Cheese and he had a blast! 

 

Above you'll find the card I made for his big day.  Using the Build-a-Bear die I created a special birthday card for my special guy.

It's amazing how quickly the years pass by.  As he grows up I am constantly in awe of his sensitivity, his sense of humor and his intelligence.

I am a very proud Mommy to this 6 year old!  I treasure every minute with him - especially our Friday night one-on-one time.  We get dinner together and rent a movie - then he gets to sleep in Mommy & Daddy's bed (at least until Daddy is ready to sleep).  One day he'll be too embarrassed to spend time with Mommy ... so I'll cling to every second he'll give me now.

Seems like only yesterday that he looked like this.  All dressed up and drowning in his going home outfit.

D is for Dragon, Dashing, & Devlin

Today's project uses a great tin we were able to purchase at Convention's Memento Mall.  I wanted to make good use of Stampin' Up!'s fun Storybook Specialty paper and did so by creating a little coloring kit for my son.

I covered the front of the tin with a fire breathing dragon and knight - one of the prints found in the Storybook Specialty collection.

Watercoloring images is not my strong point, but I made an attempt using my blender pens.  I only colored sections of the paper because I wanted the print to speak for itself.

After coloring, I covered the entire piece of paper with Versamark ink, poured Hologram Highlights over every inch and heat set it.  Unfortunately you can't see the glistening glitter in the photo - but I promise you it's pretty (or in this case for a boy, dashing) in person.

Inside the tin you'll see custom covered crayons.  I used a few prints from the Storybook Specialty paper along with some solid color cardstock.  A bit overboard you say?  I think not!  :)

A few shiny rhinestone brads and sticky rhinestones go into a small cello bag for my son to add his own bling.  He loves to create and play with the shiny stuff just like Mommy!

This final shot above shows the 5 coloring pages I trimmed to fit inside the tin.  Devlin can't wait to start coloring each one. 

A project such as this would make a fun Mommy & Me workshop, don't you think?  OR how about some stress relief for us adults?  Coloring with crayons has always relaxed me ... now if I could only learn to watercolor!  It's on my list of "to-do's"

Hey now, you're a rock star ...

   

What do you do when your little one gets an owie?

Make him a card to let him know he's a rock star.  That's what!  Yesterday, my rock star tripped, fell on the cement, skinned both knees, and cried for what seemed like hours.  Even ice cream couldn't stop the tears.  

But after he opened this card from Mommy, he was all smiles!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this Storybook Specialty designer paper when I saw it in the Idea Book & Catalog.

I love the bright, bold prints that show up on one side of the paper.  The fun is waiting on the flip side ... side two provides you a coloring book effect.  Cute prints are there begging to be colored in.

I have so many ideas rolling around in my head for this paper.  All I need now is the time to sit down and create.  It certainly gets busy working outside of the home, being a Mommy, and squeezing in stamp time.  But I'll get there - I promise!

Rockin' Wheel

 My 5 year old son rocks! 

I wanted to make him a card to tell him exactly that.  What better stamp sets to use than Friends Rock and the Rockin' Wheel?

Using Mojo Monday's Sketch #95, I started playing with my new goodies.  It all started with my favorite card base - Kraft cardstock.  Ahhh ... the love I have for Kraft (we'll go into that a different day).


Rarely do I play with masculine color combos, but I tried my hand at it using Dusty Durango, Soft Suede and Crushed Curry.  I have to say I'm quite pleased with the results.  FUN FACT:  Crushed Curry is my favorite new In Color.

Check out that fun designer paper peeking out from beneath the main image.  That's the new Storybook Specialty paper.  It was the first thing in the 2009 - 2010 Idea Book & Catalog that I HAD TO HAVE. 

One side of the Storybook paper is covered in bold colors and fun prints, while the other side is like a coloring book.  Check it out!  I am so over the moon with this collection!  Coordinating colors are Taken with Teal, Summer Sun, More Mustard, Ruby Red and Old Olive.

Be sure to look at page 163 in the catalog to see the wall art Stampin' Up! created using Storybook Specialty DSP.  LOVE IT!  I can picture this in my sons bedroom.
